VIRTUAL YOUTH ORCHESTRA
CURRENTLY PAUSED, BUT FUTURE PROJECTS ARE ON THE WAY.
ABOUT US
The Virtual Youth Orchestra formed as a FREE outreach initiative during the early stages of the COVID-19 Pandemic. We wanted to ensure that young musicians of all ages and abilities could keep playing together while unable to attend school, lessons or their own orchestras.
The orchestra started with just 60 participating musicians (mostly from our Young Players Orchestra) and now has over 3,500 registered youth musicians from over 35 countries across the world. We have recorded over 20 pieces of music ranging from different genres. All music has been written and provided for free. Recordings include the themes to International TV Programmes including SKY NEWS, SKY SPORTS NEWS & GOOD MORNING BRITAIN. Our conductor, Alex & some members were invited to appear on SKY NEWS to highlight how important music is for young people during these times of uncertainty. The orchestra recorded the Main Theme from the Avengers which was retweeted by the official twitter account to millions of followers. The recording was celebrated by the composer himself, Alan Silvestri.
Another recording featured our tribute to the NHS on International Nurse Day. We recorded the theme from FRIENDS which was also celebrated by the composing band, the Rembrandts.
The orchestra recorded a short documentary about how the project affected them during lockdown, what they gained from it both in esteem and musical development.
Due to demand we have decided to keep running the orchestra as we feel we have created a family across the world and the dream would be to play together in person at some stage!
